The Twilight in the Park Free Concert Series was started over 30 years ago by Mike Waggener and a few friends as a grass-roots volunteer committee. They received approval from San Diego’s Balboa Park Cultural Director for free use of the Organ Pavilion to hold a few free summer concerts for the public. All committee members and bands volunteered as they continue to do today. Within a few short years there were 30 or more free concerts every summer! Twilight in the Park Summer Concerts has now become a premiere showcase for many local San Diego bands and orchestras. Starting this year (2016), our administrative activities will be coordinated with Friends of  Balboa Park.

The concerts are an all volunteer effort (see the summer schedule for a list of our volunteers) with assistance from the San Diego City Parks and Recreation Department. Our committee is advised by Marie Wiggins, Cultural Arts Manager, Balboa Park.  619) 235-1105

These concerts are unique because performing groups donate their time for the benefit of folks in the San Diego area. We have a variety of music appealing to a diverse audience. Little kids can play while their parents picnic. All ages can enjoy the music and there’s plenty of room to dance. The Spreckels Organ Pavilion is a beautiful setting at twilight to enjoy music with family and friends, from kids to grandparents, in a relaxed environment. There is plenty of parking so bring a picnic and we’ll see you there. Parking is available in the lot behind the Spreckels Organ Pavilion and the other Balboa Park lots adjacent to President’s Way.

We are especially appreciative of the continued support from the San Diego Jazz Fest and Swing Dance organization. This year’s Fest will be held November 23-27 at the Town and Country Resort. For more information call 619 297-5277.
